US Airways is a major US airline and the result of a long chain of mergers and takeovers. Some names from the past merged into this airline are Piedmont Airlines, Allegheny Airlines, Lake Central Airlines, Mohawk Airlines, Pacific Southwest Airlines and America West Airlines. The last merger was with America West in 2005. The livery adopted for the merged airline is a mix of the colours of both airlines, which is shown on the Boeing 767-200 on the picture. The main bases of US Airways are Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Phoenix. The airline flies a growing number of long-haul destinations. One of these is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, where the photograph is taken.
