- Transaero Airlines began performing charter flights in November 1991 and in early 1993 it became the first private company in the Soviet Union to fly scheduled passenger services. It offered domestic as well as international flights. Transaero's first aircraft were leased from Aeroflot, but in 1992 it acquired an own Ilyushin Il-86, soon followed by Western-built equipment like the Boeing 737 and 757 and many other Western aircraft types. The airline grew fast and acquired a substantial fleet of nine Boeing 747s and other widebody airliners. It even ordered four Airbus A380 megajets. In 2015, the fleet comprised almost one hundred aircraft, but het airline ran into financial trouble because of the difficult economic circumstances in Russia. Transaero ceased operations in October 2015. -
