Kibris Türk Hava Yollari (Cyprus Turkish Airlines) was the airline of Turkish Cyprus (Northern Cyprus). It was founded in late 1974 and was based at Ercan Airport, near Nicosia. The first flight took place on 3 February 1975. The airline operated scheduled and later also charter flights to a number of Turkish and European destinations. Because Northern Cyprus was not internationally recognized as an independent country and KTHY actually was a Turkish company, all KTHY flights to Europe had to make an intermediate stop at an airport in Turkey. During its existence, the airline operated the Douglas DC-9, Boeing 727 and 737-800, and Airbus A310, A320 and A321. Due to financial problems, KTHY ceased operations in June 2010.
