Northwest Airlines is one of the major US airlines. The airline exists since 1926, when it started flying mail between the twin cities Minneapolis / St. Paul and Chicago. The airline has a strong presence in East-Asia and for this reason it was named Northwest Orient Airlines for many years. In 1991 Northwest became a partner of the Dutch airline KLM and both airlines still have a close relationship, feeding each other's network. Northwest was one of the first US airlines operating the Airbus A320. The aircraft on the photograph is approaching Ft. Lauderdale Airport.
