Northwest Airlines is the world's number four airline in terms of scheduled passenger miles flown. The airline was founded in 1926 as Northwest Airways. The name was changed to Northwest Airlines in 1934. Today the airline has three main hubs: Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis and Detroit. The airline has a strong presence in Southeast Asia and pioneered a close relationship with KLM of The Netherlands on transatlantic traffic. One of the aircraft types flown on the domestic network of Northwest is the Airbus A319.
